My baby crawled around in the playpen as I worked 12-hour days in sanding floors and removing wallpaper. Ha! It was all starting to take shape, however we weren't anywhere near finished. It was going to take an enormous amount of effort as well as my favourite brands of furniture to furnish this home. My three sons and me were looking for the hidden treasures at estate sales to reduce my expenses. Every week, we would go through estate sales and garage sales on Saturdays and Thursdays buying a mixture of old and new pieces. My next task was to spend the rest of my time painting and sanding out in the driveway. It looked a bit like this... Here is where my obsession with in the process of restoring old furniture got started. When our house was completed, I was unable to give up! I had a space on the local market, and also sold items there. Then I bought more that I could decide how to use them and outgrew the area. The house became a venue where I would host open houses where up to 1,000 people could view the items on my first floor and purchase them. That's how my company Growing Days was born. The business I was running was growing and my family was growing too. It was like I found the ideal balance between being a mum and starting my new company. Growing Days fit perfectly. Nora came into our lives in 2013 as our 4th baby. This was a fantastic direction for my business however I was also in need of a vacation. I took some time away from the old furniture in order to spend some quality time with my kids. At the time, it was the ideal thing to do. After a couple of months, my phone started to ring. A lot of people contacted me seeking advice about home improvement or decorating. The majority of people who contacted me came from people who visited my home at one of my furniture open houses. In the following months, I began to take on new clients at my own speed. Then I was able to have many clients and I was running a business of home renovations. If you'd told me that my venture would end up being an idea for the DIY Network show, I would probably have laughed. It's funny to think back on it.
